General Questions about Mil-tek Balers & Compactors

How do I know which model is right for me?
A Mil-tek specialist will help guide you through the selection process. To get started, you’ll want to know roughly how much cardboard or other materials you produce daily, what stream they come from, and the size of that material. It’s also important to consider how much floor space you have available. This information, combined with an understanding of your business setup, we can recommend the most suitable model.

Where should my baler be placed?
The right location depends on your workflows and the data you have about your trash streams. Together with Mil-tek, you’ll be able to identify the most efficient spot in your workplace.

Can balers be installed outdoor?
Yes, it can. Mil-tek balers have a modest footprint compared to most baling or compacting machines, which makes them great for indoor use. However, the most important factor is positioning them close to where trash is generated for easier handling.

If you choose to install outdoors, it’s best to place the baler under a roof or some form of shelter, as exposure to rain or cold weather may affect long-term performance.

What kind of power connection do I need?
Mil-tek balers are pneumatic, so no electrical power is needed to power the machines directly. If you already have an existing airline you can simply plug into this. If you do not have an airline, a supplied compressor requires a standard AC outlet i.e. not a 3-phase.

Mil-tek balers are air-powered, which means they don’t require electricity to operate. If you already have an air supply, you can connect the machine to it right away. If not, a supplied compressor can be plugged into a standard AC outlet, no 3-phase power needed.

How loud are Mil-tek balers?
Because they run on air instead of hydraulics, our balers and compactors are very quiet, operating at less than 70 dB (A).

How often should I schedule service for my baler?
For safe and efficient performance, an annual service is recommended. With regular annual maintenance performed by Mil-tek technicians, many balers remain in excellent working condition well beyond their expected 10-year lifespan.

What kind of training is needed to operate a Mil-tek baler?
Mil-tek machines are designed with simplicity and safety in mind. A certified Mil-tek technician will train a designated staff member to operate the machine and pass on that knowledge to others. The training is quick, straightforward, and ensures that employees at all levels can use the baler safely.

Is it possible to rent a baler?
Absolutely. Mil-tek offers flexible rental and service plans, giving you the option to rent a baler on terms that suit your business. Click here to learn more about rental options.

Questions about Mil-tek Cardboard & Plastic Balers

How do I maximize bale weight and density?
A smart tip is to empty your baler first thing in the morning. When material is left to compact overnight, the pneumatic system applies steady pressure to squeeze out remaining air without consuming extra energy. This continuous, low-energy pressing method is unique to pneumatic balers and results in tighter, denser bales.

Who do I contact for bale pickup?
Mil-tek will help connect you with a local recycling partner who can collect your cardboard and plastic bales on a regular basis.

What’s the difference between a Standard and Heavy Duty baler?
While both versions share a similar footprint and environmental profile, the Heavy Duty (HD) baler is built to manage higher volumes and deliver more tightly packed bales. To determine the best choice, it’s useful to know your average daily output of cardboard or plastic and match that with your operational needs.

Is it possible to bale cardboard and plastic in the same machine?
Yes, a single unit can process both materials, though it’s not recommended to process both at the same time. For mixed trash streams, Mil-tek provides a Plastic Bag Stand to neatly store plastic until you’re ready to bale it. Once the cardboard bale is finished, you can switch and create a bale of plastic. You can buy plastic bag stands here.

Questions about Mil-tek General Waste Compactors

Can I install a Mil-tek X-Press Compactor in a food preparation area?
Yes. Because the Mil-tek X-Press is powered by compressed air, there’s no risk of oil leakage or contamination, and the machine runs very quietly. However, local health and safety regulations may apply, so it’s important to review the details with your Mil-tek consultant to confirm your possibilities.

How will this affect my existing bins and waste containers? What happens to my current bins and containers?
X-Press Compactors are built to replace a standard drum-sized trash container. Mounted on a wheeled trolley, makes it quick and easy to swap out and transport when full.

Can compacted trash still be collected and disposed of the same way?
Yes, it can, but with a compaction rate of 10:1, it is likely that you will have significantly fewer collections and/or landfill trips.

Yes. Compacted trash can be managed through your regular collection service. Since the compactor compresses material at a ratio of up to 10:1, you’ll need far fewer pickups or landfill trips.

What are the differences between the XP models?
Each XP compactor is designed to fit various environment.

The XP100S Ultra-compact with a very small footprint, perfect for tight spaces.

The XP200S Larger capacity, making it suitable for e.g. kitchens with great amounts of trash.

The XP300 Built on a fixed frame, providing stability in challenging or mobile environments such as offshore facilities.

Questions about Mil-tek EPS Compactors

What exactly does the Mil-tek EPS compactor do?
Since EPS6 (expanded polystyrene) is made up of about 98% air, the Mil-tek EPS compactor breaks the material down into small granules. by heating it to release the trapped air and shrink the volume dramatically. The result is dense, easy-to-handle briquettes.

Can I really make money from this?
Yes. Once compressed, EPS becomes a valuable plastic that can be reused in the production of a wide range of plastic-based goods – from electronics like phones and speakers to televisions and DVDs. Because it’s cheaper than producing virgin plastic, compacted EPS is very popular.

What type of polystyrene can be shredded?
As the most popular and used kind, EPS6 is the only type of polystyrene that can be recycled with a Mil-tek EPS compactor. Most materials are clearly labeled, so if you’re unsure, check the packaging or ask your Mil-tek consultant.

Why not just throw polystyrene out with regular trash?
Expanded polystyrene never breaks down in landfills, it stays there indefinitely. By compacting and recycling EPS, you can cut overall trash costs by up to 80%, thanks to fewer collections and reduced transport. On top of that, selling compacted EPS can turn a cost into a source of income.

How can I find buyers for my compacted EPS?
Mil-tek supports businesses worldwide with exactly this. Your consultant will connect you with local recyclers who are willing to purchase the material at a fair market price.
