Abastur is a conference in Mexico for food service and hospitality professionals with about 28,000 visitors annually. For Abastur 2014, Miltek was asked to speak.
Following the keynote, we interviewed Natalya Duarte of Mil-tek Waste Solutions Mexico, to see how it went.
Can you give us some background about why you went to Abastur 2014?
We have previously participated as exhibitors in the Expo. The organizers of Abastur 2014 were interested in presenting waste management solutions for the HORECA sector since this is a more and more relevant topic nowadays. They thought we would be the best speakers in terms of this sector so we were invited to join.
How does this year compare with other years (if you have been before)?
I think it is quite similar every year. There were a few more sustainable proposals in every sector.
Can you tell us about your address?
The conference was mainly focus on educating the audience in Mexican Law in terms of waste management. We talked about the current waste management situation in Mexico and introduced Mil-tek s technology as a sustainable waste management solution that would create several benefits (the Mil-tek benefits - hygiene, logistics, reduced waste disposal costs, environmental and health and safety benefits, etc.) within their businesses. We also talked about success stories in other parts of the world as well as what we as Mil-tek thought were the problems that they were currently facing within their businesses in terms of waste management.
Did you notice any industry trends or key things from the exhibition that stand out in particular?
Traditionally the HORECA sector (HOtels-REstaurants-CAfeterias) is a sector that is very reluctant to invest in waste management solutions due to how waste management takes place and has taken place for hotels and restaurant i.e. we are competing against the bin man. However, the fact that we were invited to talk at the conference suggests that we are headed in the right direction: Businesses are slowly becoming more conscious that it is worth investing in waste management because of environmental factors and other factors that can help improve their business.
What was your overall impression of the exhibition?
The expo was a big exhibition with lots of proposals that are relevant to the Hotels Restaurants sector. It was all done very professionally and looked very impressive.
Will you go to Abastur 2015?
I hope to, yes!
Natalya Duarte, in conversation with Darragh Groeger.
